A new year, new resolutions, new promises, new hopes. Like many people I woke up this morning and said "Right, I'm back on it." The days in between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve I tried to eat healthy and even managed to get in a couple of workouts. To ring in the new year, I bought some fancy new scales that tell me body fat percentage, water percentage, BMI, as well as weight. I jumped on the scales before I had my breakfast. I'll be posting my stats tomorrow and will do a recap of my Christmas and New Year.
Now for the first WIAW of 2013. Hop on over and see Jenn @ Peas and Crayons for the low down.I have taken pictures of some of my foods over the last week on my iPhone and posted them on Instagram, but haven't taken shots of a full day's food. So, that's why my WIAW is a little later in the day this week, as it is what I have eaten today.
For New Year's Day I baked some honey and walnut bread that I found on the Shake Up Your Wake Up website. We didn't scoff all the loaf yesterday, so I had a slice this morning. There is no sugar in the recipe, just honey, which gives a light sweetness, the crust is lovely, thick and crusty and there is the delightful nutty crunch from the walnuts. The loaf is filling but not stodgy, it didn't lie heavy in my tummy. I had a slice of the bread with a cup of green tea and a green smoothie.
This was my first green smoothie, I made it with 120ml (1/2 cup) unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 medium banana, a handful of kale and a handful of spinach. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
After my breakfast had settled, I jumped on my elliptical trainer and did 13 minutes high intensity interval training. I warmed up for two minutes and then did 30 seconds as fast as I could followed by one minute at a moderate pace. I did this until I was beat.
My post workout lunch was a spinach omelette with roast turkey slices and a little cottage cheese that I had left in the fridge. I actually gobbled a turkey slice before I took this photo. I know some people say they're not hungry after exercise, but me I'm often STARVING, which is why I try and workout before a meal, usually lunch or dinner.
Snackage this afternoon was a handful of yummy Blue Diamond smokehouse flavoured almonds.
I made this spinach and chickpea curry today, which I plan on eating for my dinner with some steamed greens. I'll probably put the picture on Instagram later tonight. If you have Instagram follow me, I'm @roadtolesscake. I'll post the recipe in a few days for you all. I've unintentionally had a bit of a mean green day today, eating lots of spinach. I bought lots of greens the other day when I went grocery shopping to ensure I start the new year with healthy eats.
Do you feel hungry after exercising?
Do you sometimes eat the same thing more than one in the same day?

I see only tasty and healthy things :) Banana-spinach smoothie is one of my favourite ones!
ReplyDeleteAnd replying to your quiestion... Yes, sometimes I eat the same thing more than one time. It happens when sometimes I just fancy some... for example, deliicous pancakes :)
Thank you. The smoothie was good, the banana added sweetness and creamyiness.
Deleteexercise makes me really hungry! I had to eat lots of protein today to sort out the hunger issue!
ReplyDeleteSo glad I'm not alone.
DeleteI love the smell of baked bread. I really should tRy and make my own in 2013
ReplyDeleteWhen the bread was baking it made the whole house smell amazing.
DeleteFood looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks, hun.
DeleteHappy new year! All your food looks super yummy!
ReplyDeleteWhich scales did you get? I have the Withings Wi Fi scales and they do a similar thing - they're my favourite!
Good luck with your efforts for the new year :-)

I bought the Weight Watchers Body Fat Precision Scales. They were on offer in Tescos for £14-15.
DeleteGirl, everything looks delicious! Hope your having a wonderful week xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, hunnie. Hope your week is awesome too. xx
DeleteYou'd never had a green smoothie before?!! You've been missing out! I've not had one in awhile, I never seem to have spinach in when I want one! That loaf looks good!
ReplyDeleteI'd buy spinach with the intent of making a green smoothie but then end up cooking it with something else.
DeleteI still haven't worked up the courage to try a green smoothie ... maybe I will this year :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn't even taste the greens because of the almond milk and banana.
